The crash happened late Saturday morning as the girls were picking up litter in a ditch in Lake Hallie, a village about 95 miles (153 kilometers) east of Minneapolis. Families did the same at Southview Elementary School, the other school the girls attended, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.
Police identified the victims as Jayna S. Kelley, 9; Autum A. Helgeson, 10, both of Lake Hallie; Haylee J. Hickle, 10, and her 32-year-old mother, Sara Jo Schneider, both of Lafayette.
