This isn't to say that the Lion Air crew was necessarily in the latter group-despite safety problems in the past with this airline, this specific crew may have absolutely been first-rate aviators, yet still suffered the same fate-but the fact is that we're in an era of increasing automation in aviation that's still 100 percent overseen by human pilots.

The aircraft are not used by Australia's two major airlines, Qantas and Virgin Australia.

The bulletin from Boeing will alert airlines that erroneous readings from a flight-monitoring system can cause the planes to abruptly dive, said the person, who asked not to be named discussing details of the manufacturer's plans.
"This condition, if not addressed, could cause the flight crew to have difficulty controlling the airplane, and lead to excessive nose-down attitude, significant altitude loss, and possible impact with terrain", the directive states.
Boeing has previously described its 737 Max stable of aircraft as the fastest- selling in the company's history.

Mr. Ramadhan had been a prosecutor in a district of the Bangka, where the plane would have landed. If it proves true that the AoA sensor was indeed at fault, the investigation will reveal much about what the pilots knew and suspected when confronted with the situation, what their training was like, and what their responses to the incident not only were, but also should have been. "We replaced the part suspected by our engineer".
Scores of body bags filled with remains have been collected and sent for DNA testing, but so far just 14 people have been identified.
