Senate Judiciary Republicans voted down repeated efforts by Democrats to gain access to those records, which included details about Kavanaugh's time working on torture and detention policy in the Bush White House, as well as his time clerking for Judge Alex Kozinski, who retired from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in disgrace following a series of sexual misconduct allegations.
Even as Kavanaugh took his oath of office Saturday evening in a quiet private ceremony, not long after the narrowest Senate confirmation in almost a century and a half, protesters chanted outside the court building across the street from the Capitol.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, noted that she would like her vote to be marked as "present", in a logistical maneuver aimed to address the fact that another Republican, Sen. Steve Daines, could go to his daughter's wedding without having to stay in D.C.to vote.
"Now the people are going to have to decide", Sen.
Trump's support for Kavanaugh never wavered.
"A vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh today is a vote to end this brief, dark chapter in the Senate's history and turn the page toward a brighter tomorrow", Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said ahead of the vote, over which Vice President Pence presided.
Sophia Piper, a 16-year-old from Kavanaugh's hometown of Bethesda, Md., told Van Sant she chose to demonstrate against Kavanaugh's confirmation Saturday "in support of all survivors who have told their stories and been met with disbelief from their parents, law enforcement, any other adult in power in their lives".
Ford, though, maintained she was "100 percent" sure he groped her and tried to force himself on her at a high school party. "You could see how hard she worked".
"An FBI investigation that did not include interviews of Dr Ford and Judge Kavanaugh is not a meaningful investigation in any sense of the word", they said in a statement quoted in United States media. Democrats and Ford's attorneys blasted the investigation for being limited in scope.

Saraki made this known in a series of tweets on Sunday , after Atiku was announced as victor of the PDP presidential primaries . They also pledged to support whoever emerged as the party's flagbearer.
The Saturday proceeding was repeatedly interrupted by leftist protestors' irate screaming in the gallery. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, said the investigation was not comprehensive, and was "a sham, a fig leaf for the Republicans to hide behind".
These protests are following the sexual assault allegations that have emerged against Kavanaugh.
"This is going to make the court seem more political, and I think that's unsafe because the legitimacy of the court turns on the belief that law is distinct from politics", said Ernest Young, a conservative law professor at Duke University.
They also said they were troubled by his fiery attack on Democrats.
Before leaving Washington for a rally in Topeka, Kansas, Trump told reporters that Kavanaugh will be a "great" justice.
Trump also said women, far from being outraged at Kavanaugh, "were outraged at what happened to Brett Kavanaugh, outraged".
Protesters and activists had been a ubiquitous presence on Capitol Hill in recent days.
As protesters chanted "Shame!" and "November is coming!" police took several dozen protesters down the steps and put them in plastic flex-cuffs. Citing the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee and "the virtual mob that assaulted us in the course of this process", McConnell said "they've managed to deliver the only thing that we had not been able to figure out how to do, which was to get our folks fired up".
Ramirez released a statement Saturday saying that as she watched the Senate debate, "I feel like I'm right back at Yale where half the room is laughing and looking the other way".
