As Senate Republicans press for a swift vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court, Senate Democrats are investigating a new allegation of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh.
"For people to come out of the woodwork from 36 years ago, and 30 years ago and never mention it - all of a sudden it happens", Trump said. "Hopefully, we'll have a second judge very shortly who is a fantastic, fantastic man, a fantastic talent and intellect, hopefully Brett Kavanaugh will go on to the Supreme Court" Trump said on WTAM radio in an interview with Geraldo Rivera.
Hours later, Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, the committee's top Democrat, requested "an immediate postponement of any further proceedings related to the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh" in order to assess the new allegations.
"I want her to have her voice", he said. "This 35-year-old uncorroborated claim is the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats created to tear a good man down", said Kupec. She claims Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during a party while they both were at Yale in the early 1980s. "The alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen", Kavanaugh said in a statement.
Brett Kavaugh could have already been confirmed to the Supreme Court, but Republicans have chose to wait around and give Democrats time to conjure up additional allegations against him.
Ford is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday in a high stakes public hearing.
"Despite actual threats to her safety and her life, Dr. Ford believes it is important for senators to hear directly from her about the sexual assault committed against her", the lawyers said in a statement.

Ramirez, a freshman at the time, said that she was invited by a friend on the school's women's soccer team to a dorm room party at the college's Lawrence Hall, a student residence hall. Colorado resident Deborah Ramirez tells The New Yorker Kavanaugh thrust his penis in her face at a party and caused her to touch it without her consent.
Mr Avenatti said he will disclose his client's identity in the coming days and that she is prepared to give evidence before the committee, as well as provide names of corroborating witnesses.
Earlier on Monday, the White House adviser Kellyanne Conway called the claims a "vast leftwing conspiracy" and said Kavanaugh should not have to pay for decades of "pent-up" demands by women for a cultural reckoning on sexual misconduct.
"I think he's an outstanding man".
The president signaled frustration with the delay of the Senate vote and questioned accusations leveled against Kavanaugh. She says he put his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream.
Ramirez told the magazine she was on the floor, drunk at a Yale party when the alleged incident took place. However, The New York Times reported Sunday that there are no witnesses to her claims and that she herself told some former classmates that she wasn't sure if Kavanaugh was the person who had been involved.
