Also, the inhabitants of Vault 76 were in a control group, meaning they don't have the requisite insanity brought on by Vault-Tec's experiments in the other vaults. Now things may change as more details are revealed, and this could still result in something brilliant. But now it seems like Fallout 76 will be an original game in itself.
However, it is their other major franchise that the above tease is in relation to: Fallout. The vault was created to open 20 years after a nuclear war, and was among the seventeen known control vaults, meaning that it was used as a baseline to compare to experimental vaults.
According to Schreier, Fallout 76 is under development "at both Bethesda Game Studios' main office in Maryland and at the Austin office formerly known as Battlecry Studios". While some of these were a bit of fun, a remaster of the third entry in the series was a highly-desired title, so some may have been a bit let down when Fallout 76 was announced.

Fallout 76 appears to be set in 2102, 25 years after the Great War which means it would be the earliest in Fallout's timeline.
It's not yet clear what kind of game Fallout 76 will be, or which of Bethesda's studios has been involved in developing it.
UPDATE: according to Kotaku's sources, Fallout 76 will be an online game of sorts. Whether Bethesda will reveal what they are teasing before E3 or only during their press conference is yet to be seen. Bethesda Game Studios did suggest the next project would be different and Kotaku's sources have confirmed as much.
