The Senate Judiciary Committee on May 16 released more than 2,000 pages of documents related to its investigation into improper interference in the 2016 election, including transcripts and analysis of a dozen interviews.
Mr Trump's long-held admiration of Mr Putin has been a source of suspicion and held up by critics as evidence that he and his campaign associates welcomed help from the Russians in defeating Democrat Hillary Clinton, even if they did not directly coordinate activity with Mr Putin's government.
The Committee, which is conducting one of several investigations into Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, interviewed Trump Jr and four other people who attended the meeting.
On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee released testimony that Trump pressed for the meeting ahead of the Miss Universe contest, which was being held in Russian Federation that year.
But when that did not materialize, it left the members of the Trump team upset, particularly Kushner. So, I've got no reason to doubt the intelligence community's finding.
Kushner previously said the meeting was a waste of his time.
The transcripts reveal Trump Jr. told the Judiciary Committee previous year that he could not recall whether he'd discussed the Russian Federation probe with his father. "I thought that was worthy of the words 'smoking gun, ' yes".
Warner alluded obliquely to the House committee's decision to break with the CIA and other spy agencies. However, the Democrats were hamstrung because they lacked subpoena power that would give their requests legal force.
Though the witnesses were not under oath, they were nonetheless required to tell Congress the truth.
Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort also attended the meeting, along with a translator.
Akhmetshin said that [Natalia] Veselnitskaya, the Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer at the center of the meeting, began discussing some wealthy contributors to the Clinton Global Initiative. But the panel released her written responses to a letter that Grassley sent her past year.
Still, newly-revealed details about the American businessman's failed courtship of the Russian autocrat illustrate the depth and tenure of Mr Trump's infatuation, which predated the 2016 presidential campaign during which he routinely praised Mr Putin.

His initial explanation of the meeting suggested it was primarily about adoptions, though that explanation quickly fell apart.
The White House has said the president was involved in drafting an initial statement after news of the meeting broke a year ago.

A few notes, though: Browder is the US businessman behind the Magnitsky Act, which the Russian government hates.
"I also firmly believe that this effort is not over".
He was asked another time about the "love it, especially later in the summer" line in the email, and Trump Jr. again said there was just too much going on with the campaign for him to "focus" much on Goldstone's offer.
