Washington D.C. [USA], April 15 (ANI): United States Vice President Michael Pence on Saturday said that Russian Federation is "on the wrong side of the war" while referring to recent strikes on Syria by the USA along with Germany and France.
Pence also answered questions on the negotiations at the summit of Latin American countries in Peru and said he is very hopeful that the United States, Mexico and Canada were close to a deal on a renegotiated NAFTA trade pact.
Pence was in Lima on behalf of U.S. President Donald Trump, who opted to stay home to oversee Friday's military strikes against Syria.
VP Pence called the USA led airstrikes on Syria a success.
There "will be a price to pay" if Syria ever uses chemical weapons again, as the U.S. is ready to take additional action, Pence told reporters travelling with him to Peru to attend the Summit of the Americas.
"We believe that it has significantly eroded and crippled the ability of the regime to produce chemicals", Pence further claimed despite the fact that the previous U.S. administration was heavily involved in the process of Syria's dismantling of its entire chemical weapons arsenal back in 2014 in the presence of global inspectors. Left unsaid was whether Pence's overtures might eventually lead to a joint Trump-Pena Nieto meeting, their first.
Frankfurt furious with Bayern's announcement of Kovac as coach
Los Blancos haven't been great in La Liga this campaign but there's just something about Europe that brings out the best in them. The European Cup's most-played fixture and a veritable continental Klassiker, Bayern Munich v Real Madrid needs no introduction.
Pena Nieto and opposing candidates in the Mexican presidential election have condemned the move.
Pence said the two countries were close to reaching agreements on issues such as immigration, combating drugs and NAFTA.
The meeting comes amid tensions between Trump and Mexico over immigration and the president's calls for a border wall.
NDP leader Jagmeet Singh issued a statement Saturday saying "escalating violence through further military action is not the way to bring peace and stability to Syria and the surrounding region", and calling for more funds to investigate atrocities in Syria.
Pence also met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to talk about the renegotiation of NAFTA.
Shortly before Trump's address to the nation Friday night, Pence was whisked away from the summit in his motorcade so he could return to his hotel to inform congressional leaders of the pending missile strikes.
