As GamesBeat is reporting, the next Battlefield game will use World War II as its setting.
Internally, it was rumoured that the game was originally called Battlefield 2, but it's now been changed to Battlefield V to avoid confusion with the previous Battlefield game with the same title. Of course, Battlefield 1 ended up being a big success, surpassing 25 million players as of last December and launching EA back into competition with Activision and Call of Duty.
This news comes on the heels of Call of Duty seeing success with Call of Duty: WWII past year, which was the best-selling installment in the franchise since Black Ops II released in 2012.
So far, more than a dozen Battlefield games have released since the franchise's inception in 2002. Bad Company fans will have to wait a bit longer for the third installment in that spinoff series to release.
