The Witchwood is slated for a mid-April 2018 release and six new cards have been revealed off the bat, including - who else in a Gilneas-centric adventure - but the King of Gilneas himself, Genn. But The Witchwood is taking a lot of the best ideas from those sets - notably the Hero Cards and Dungeon Runs - and expanding them.
Some of the new cards utilize a new keyword, Echo, that allows them to be played again and again (mana limits allowing); others will feature a new Rush keyword. This will allow us to use a card that's already been played, no matter how many times it's been used before. The free-to-play game for PC and mobile depends on microtransactions, which largely come from selling digital card packs. The Year of the Raven is due to arrive in mid-April, and Blizzard revealed today the first of the card game's three planned expansions for the next year.
To help them survive the night, players can draw on an arsenal of new tricks, including the eerie new Echo keyword. Azalina Soulthief will replace your hand with an exact copy of your opponent's, which should lead to some interesting strategic back-and forth; there's also Genn Greymane, a neutral minion who will reduce your starting Hero Power cost to just 1 if your deck has only even-cost cards at the beginning of the match, and Baku the Mooneater, who will upgrade your Hero Power if your deck contains only odd-cost cards. Start of the Game gives you special powers if your deck meets certain conditions when the round begins.
