Gary Oldman won his first Oscar for Best actor in a leading role for the historical drama, Darkest Hour, in which he played the famed Winston Churchill. Gary Oldman is similar to Casey Affleck in that regard, who won the best actor award a year ago for Manchester by the sea, even while he had been accused to sexual harassment earlier this decade.
Fiorentino's account saw a bit of increased traction this awards season, but Oldman was nominated and won the Oscar despite being up against some tough competition, including Timothée Chalamet's performance in "Call Me by Your Name".
Oldman portrays British Prime Minister Winston Churchill who is newly appointed to his position.
The claims against Oldman came in 2001, when Oldman's ex-wife Donya Fiorentino said in her divorce papers that the actor choked and beat her in front of their young children.
"Congratulations, Gary and congratulations to the Academy for awarding not one but two abusers with Oscars", she told the outlet. "I backed away, with the phone receiver in my hand".
Messi hits 600th career goal in Barca clash with Atletico
Although not as consistently superb as Messi has been all season, Atletico's Antoine Griezmann is on an excellent scoring run. FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will go head-to-head in a top-of-the-table LaLiga clash at the Camp Nou this afternoon.
"Why don't they ask Gary Oldman about hitting his ex-wife in the face with a telephone? Both of the children were crying".
Some people are not happy Oldman won the Oscar, especially considering previous frontrunner James Franco wasn't nominated after allegations of inappropriate behavior toward women surfaced against him.
So as you can imagine getting Oldman would have been a bit of a coup for the show - with Piers and Susanna shouting encouragement from the studio back in London as the Darkest Hour star - stopped to talk to someone else entirely. Celebrities wore all black to the Golden Globes in solidarity with Time's Up - though they quickly abandoned the dress code at the ensuing awards. He did not present the best actress Oscar this year, breaking with tradition. During his acceptance speech, Oldman thanked Churchill, as well as those who worked with him.
