After alleging Cambridge Analytica's link with Congress, whistle-blower Christopher Wylie today revealed CA's India operation details in association with SCL group. Cambridge Analytica, a UK-based data mining firm, is under fire for allegedly using illegally Facebook users' data to sway elections, including the 2016 USA presidential elections which Donald Trump won.
Wylie, who formerly worked for Cambridge Analytica (CA), alleges the data was used to help to build profiles on American voters and raise support for Donald Trump in the 2016 USA presidential election.
It said that had deleted the data and added that "Christopher Wylie was a part-time contractor who left in July 2014 and has no direct knowledge of our work or practices since that date".
Christopher Wylie, the Cambridge Analytica whistle blower, has put out a Tweet with "evidence" that Cambridge Analytica worked in India.
Wylie said SCL India has a database of 600 districts and seven lakh villages.
Apart from that, in 2012, SCL said that it carried out a caste census in Uttar Pradesh on behalf of a national party, not naming who, where it analysed the caste structure to identify the core and swing voters.
The timing of the work suggests that the £42,000 ($59,000) contract was signed after the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data watchdog, opened an investigation into the use of data analytics for political purposes that has focused on Cambridge Analytica's work.
"I don't remember a national project, but I know regionally", he added.
Cambridge Analytica whistleblower says firm worked for United Kingdom on Middle East projects
Executives from Cambridge Analytica were caught on camera boasting of how they could influence elections and how they used data to shape public opinion. Surjewala said Mr. Prasad and the Modi government refuse to answer these questions and "they only want to divert the agenda".
The government has issued a notice to social media giant Facebook over alleged data breach involving British company Cambridge Analytica.
Cambridge Analytica, a data firm owned and operated primarily by foreign nationals, was paid almost $6 million by Donald Trump and Ted Cruz's presidential campaigns in 2016, according to FEC filings.
He said Cambridge Analytica had little concern for the law, saying "they don't care whether or not it's legal as long as it gets the job done". Common Cause, the same group that filed a complaint in January alleging that the $130,000 payment from the Trump campaign to porn star Stormy Daniels could have been illegal, filed complaints on Monday urging the DOJ and FEC to investigate whether Cambridge Analytica's involvement with multiple US campaigns in the 2014 and 2016 elections violated this provision.
Nearly a week after Mark Zuckerberg published a post acknowledging Facebook's shortcomings in the Cambridge Analytica saga, and only a couple of days after a public apology via newspapers in the United Kingdom and the US, Facebook has finally rolled out the first batch of changes on the platform related to how users see and access data.
Elder Tyagi, the JD (U) politician claimed on TV that his son worked with Prashant Kishor of the Indian Political Action Committee on the Bihar 2015 elections. Mark Zuckerberg also said last week that users would soon see a tool on the top of their News Feeds that will allow them to quickly revoke the permissions of third-party apps to their data.
