During a rare address to the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called for an worldwide Middle East peace conference to be convened by the middle of this year.
Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday presented a three-point peace plan centered on convening an global peace conference by mid-year to foster negotiations to resolve the intractable conflict with Israel.
"We met with the President of the United States, Mr. Donald Trump, four times in 2017, and we have expressed our absolute readiness to reach a historic peace agreement", Abbas said in a rare appearance before the Security Council.
"Trump's last decisions showed that the USA monopoly in the Middle East settlement is not working".
Abbas left the Security Council meeting room immediately after finishing his speech, without listening to the delegates from Israel and the US. "But we are not ready to move one inch if anyone wants us to forsake these rights".
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called in an address to the United Nations Security Council Tuesday to convene an global conference by mid-2018 that would result in the recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.
Haley was accompanied to the council meeting by Jason Greenblatt, the United States envoy for Middle East peace and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in law and adviser on Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts. "Our negotiators are sitting right behind me ready to talk, but we will not chase after you", she said, referring to Kushner and Greenblatt. You don't have to like that decision. You don't even have to accept it. French President Emmanuel Macron said he won't revive a French-led multilateral peace initiative, urging Abbas to see what Trump offers.

"But beyond the substance, perhaps its biggest flaw was that it encouraged the false notion that Israel can be pushed into a deal that undermines its vital interests, damaging the prospects for peace by increasing mistrust between the Israelis and the Palestinians".
He blamed the deadlock in the peace process on the U.S. declaration on Jerusalem, which he said violated worldwide law, and on what he called Israel's "illegal activities" in the occupied territories.
The United States has said it would veto any such attempt and Qudwa said he did not expect a major policy announcement, such as a fresh push for full membership, during the speech.
Abbas put the blame for the failure of peace efforts squarely on Israel, saying it was "acting as a state above the law" and had "shut the door on the two-state solution" to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Despite the aggressive rhetoric, Haley has also indicated that the U.S.is by all intents and purposes on the side of peace.
France, which organized its own worldwide Middle East peace conference with some 70 states in attendance in Paris in January 2017, also responded warmly to Abbas's proposal. "We welcome you as the leader of the Palestinian people here today. They will be part of the collective process for sure", said Mansour. Danon said Abbas is always welcome to directly negotiate with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but chooses not to.
