"The final run of women's singles luge is now ongoing, but it has been marred by a very scary moment, as USA's Emily Sweeney suffered a nasty crash and did not finish". She actually said she was okay at that point, and it was confirmed that she had no broken bones or anything of that nature, though she was then taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
She was in her fourth run and in curve 9 when she lost control of the sled, bounced around and crashed.
She was able to walk toward the finish about 10 minutes after the crash, albeit very gingerly and with some assistance from team and on-site medical personnel. As Sweeney was reaching Curve 9, which has developed a reputation among Olympic lugers for being so slippery and hard to handle, she slid upward so that her feet smashed into the right (upper) wall, which sent her careening back down into the left wall. After falling onto the ice, Sweeney rolled down the track with her sled in tow before coming to a stop.
Sweeney hit the turn at over 60 miles per hour, trying to use her feet to slow down her descent, but to no avail.
As she was getting into an ambulance, Sweeney said, "I'm fine".
New York City bomber Ahmed Rahimi sentenced to life in prison
Rahimi and two police officers were wounded in the shootout. "He has shown no remorse", Crowley said. Federal Judge Richard Berman, who presided over the trial, imposed the sentence Tuesday in NY .
Later in the final run, Summer Britcher of the United States lost control at the start and collided with some walls - but got down the track without crashing or incurring serious injury.
The competition was briefly stopped, but resumed a short time later.
She also missed out in 2014 and enlisted in the Army before qualifying for the 2018 team.
Sweeney entered the final run in 14th place, having moved up one spot following her first two runs.
