Getting those customers to link Amazon and groceries could further tie it into the nation's shopping habits and give it a bigger chunk of the more than $600 billion USA grocery market.
There is no catch to the grocery items as Amazon reports it covers everything from fresh produce to meat, seafood, select alcohol and "everyday staples and other locally sourced" items. But while Amazon has previously lowered prices on select items at Whole Foods, and has started offering some of the grocer's private label brands on its web site and via Prime Now, it is unknown how products will be priced through Prime Now going forward.
Amazon announced that it was acquiring Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market Inc.in June 2017 for $13.7 billion, and the deal was approved and closed in August. Now it has added Whole Foods to its list of Prime Now stores, which you can check out at PrimeNow.com or with the Prime Now app. This marks the first major integration between Amazon's e-commerce operations and its acquisition of Whole Foods. If you want those groceries in an hour, you'll have to spend at least $35 and pay an extra $7.99 delivery fee. The company made a decision to pair up with local retailers to be able to deliver goods to their customers via Prime Now.
