Following the game a joint investigation into the incident from both the NFL and NFL Players Association was launched to examine if the Panthers had violated new league protocol regarding potential head injuries.
"Mr. Newton was properly evaluated for a concussion in the sideline medical tent and did not sustain a concussion", said the league in a statement.
Newton was injured after a hard hit in the fourth quarter in which he claimed his helmet came down over his eyes and hurt his right eye.
When Mr. Newton took a knee as he was walking off the field, he did so at the direction of multiple members of the Panthers sideline coaching and medical staffs. National Football League officials were confident that had nothing to do with concussion-like symptoms, as the Panthers had reported in the third quarter that Newton suffered a knee injury.
The Carolina medical staff also conducted a sideline concussion assessment on Newton and determined he could return to the game.
Mr. Newton suffered a knee injury earlier in the game, which was documented by the club medical staff and is depicted on game film.
SpaceX test fires Falcon Heavy, one of the most powerful rockets ever
Musk, who is also the founder of Tesla cars, chose to launch a cherry red Tesla Roadster as the payload on the first test flight. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has called it Falcon Heavy the "most powerful rocket in the world by a factor of two".
"He took a hit". But before the former Auburn standout got off the field, Newton went down awkwardly to all fours.
As to why Newton took a knee on the field, the investigation found that he was instructed by Ron Rivera, via coach-to-quarterback radio transmittal, to do so if he needed medical attention.
" Requiring locker room concussion evaluation for all players demonstrating gross or sustained vertical instability (e.g., stumbling or falling to the ground when trying to stand)".
"He had an MRI a day later and it showed substantial damage and a lot of swelling, that's the reason he can't fully bend it as he goes to the ground", Sills told Rapoport. The NFL concluded that Carolina's medical team "acted with an abundance of caution". Evaluation for a concussion requires not only an analysis of the broadcast video but an examination performed by a medical team familiar with the player and the relevant medical history. The protocols have evolved and improved several times since their inception as a result of these rigorous reviews, and we are confident that they will continue to evolve as we aspire to set even higher standards for player health and safety.
"We urge restraint among those who attempt to make medical diagnoses based upon the broadcast video alone", the league wrote. The UNC will contact the team medical staff on the sideline should they observe any signs or symptoms warranting further evaluation.
